Did you know that the average adult dog sleeps for 12-14 hours per day? And puppies sleep for around 18 hours. Obviously there are certain factors that this will depend on, like: the breed of dog, environment and even the sex of the dog.

To put this into perspective:

  • Around 50% of a dog’s day is spent sleeping
  • Around 30% is spent resting
  • Around 20% is active time

With this in mind, on average your dog will spend around 80% of his/her day in bed!! It really is a dog’s life isn’t it?

We’re sure any dog lover wants their pampered pooch to experience ultimate comfort, which is why we created the Lakes Pet’s brand in the first place.

All of our beds have been tried and tested, so you can rest assured that your canine companion is as snuggly as possible (for at least 80% of their day).

You barked, Lakes Pet listened!

We’ve had a few questions lately in relation to the size of the beds and how to select the right size for your pet, so we thought we’d create this helpful guide to point you all in the right direction, as we know how much of a mind-boggle this can be (if only they could speak and let us know about their fondness for firm over plush too).

The best way to select a dog bed is to first evaluate the size of your pooch. The bed you choose should be big enough for your dog to completely spread out and stretch his/her legs right out in front of them.

So if you measure your dog in 3 places:

  1. From nose right to where his/her tail begins
  2. The length of his/her front legs
  3. The length of his/her rear legs

Then add them all together using the below calculation to find the sprawl length of your pooch:

Nose to tail  +  front legs  +  rear legs  -  ½ the length of front legs = sprawl length

Now you can easily select the perfect bed for your canine friend, but if you do struggle with getting your dog to stand still while you measure them, here’s another guide that we’ve based on the average size per breed:
