How to Choose The Perfect Pet Bed

Your dog sleeps much more than you do; so choosing the perfect bed is really important. 

Your pampered pooch may not be able to tell you want they want, but they will certainly let you know if they’re not happy with your choice. They may even take your cosy spot on the sofa or snuggle up next to you in bed if they’re not comfy in theirs!

So how do you pick the perfect bed?

Size does matter – well you wouldn’t buy a small bed for a Great Dane would you? Your dog needs room to stretch, to move about and feel safe and secure, just like you do when you go to bed, so always check sizes carefully.

How does your dog sleep? Just like us, dogs have a favourite position, on their backs, on their fronts, on their sides or curled up in a ball, your dog needs a bed that will support him however he likes to sleep and give him room to move around too. After all, if he’s dreaming of chasing rabbits we don’t want to spoil his fun. 

Age is a factor too. Very young and also ageing dogs can have accidents so pet beds and cushions with a water resistant liner will provide comfort as well as protection for the filler and replacement covers mean your pet will always have a clean and cosy bed.

Older dogs often suffer from aching joints so being well supported is also very important. Memory foam beds and cushions are perfect for this as well as for dogs who have recently had injuries or surgery.

Replacement covers are important for our adventurous pooches too. How often does your dog come in from a walk, a roll in a puddle or digging in the garden and head straight for the comfort of their bed? 

Wet and dirty dog beds become smelly and unpleasant so a good supply of replacement covers will keep your pet and your home smelling fresh.

Where you place your dogs bed is also important. Your dog needs somewhere draught free and quiet where they won’t be disturbed so they get a good night’s sleep – but he may also want a cushion in the lounge where he can be part of the family while you watch TV as he naps. After all he just wants to be with you all no matter what you’re doing.
